Once a strategic harbour and naval base at the mouth of Norway’s longest river, the Glomma, Isegran has played an important role in Fredrikstad’s maritime history for hundreds of years. Today, the island is home to one of Norway’s leading centres for the preservation of historic wooden boats.

During the guided walk, you’ll discover traditional shipbuilding workshops where skilled craftsmen restore historic vessels using centuries-old techniques. Watch classic boats being rebuilt, learn how sails, masts and rigging are made, and hear fascinating stories about sailors, merchants and life along the river.
